COLOR GRADING WORKFLOW IN A NUTSHELL
our Process
The first step of the color grading process is to set an overall look for the project. Clients are encouraged to provide visual references that convey the look and emotion they'd like to achieve. We choose a raw still frame from the video edit that provides a distinct range of colors. Next we provide a lookbook with at least 4 distinct looks applied to that still image. The client will choose the look they like the most and note any additional tweaks. From there we generate a first pass color grade on the entire edit. The work comes alive.
We share the first pass on Blackmagic Cloud Presentation, You Tube or other preferred method of viewing/transfering files. Now the clients have the ability to generate comments on each shot and evaluate the work.
Clients also have the option to interface with us in a real-time video format via Google Meet or Skype. This allows us to skip the delays and miscommunications often associated with long email conversations and discuss details with more nuance. Stay on the same page and save those keystrokes for that sci-fi novel you've always been wanting to write.
For those who prefer the ultra hands on approach, we utilize the Remote Monitoring system, which provides remote access to our work machines and allows the clients to review the work in real-time as we are working on the color grading; they can see all the bells and whistles up close and recommend the exact adjustments they are looking for.
